Before: The entrance to the living room is blocked by an oversized couch. The focal point of the room becomes a book shelf being used to house a shell collection. The room is small and crowded and does not have an inviting first impression.

After: The dark leather couch is moved to the far end of the room with the coffee table placed in front. Art work is hung to each side and a standing lamp and table with lamp flank the couch. A matching chair is placed facing the couch but tucked out of the pathway to create a natural conversational seating plan. The bookcase is placed on the entrance wall where it does not call attention to itself. All extra chairs are removed to make the room feel more spacious. The French doors to the family room are closed to contain the small and cozy living room from the huge family room beyond.
